I just wanted to share with you some thoughts I’ve had about the connection between Mental health + Physical Health. Some of you may already know that I was a Psychiatric Nurse for some 14 years prior to getting into fitness, specialising in addictions for the last 8 of those years.. At no point in ANY of my career did anyone EVER look at the connection between Nutrition/ Exercise and mental health.. To my detriment, I didn’t understand the importance of looking at those two either.. 🙁

Wise man 👆👆👆
• I am now a firm believer that the Physical Health of our bodies is deeply connected to our mental health + vice versa. In my experience one will deteriorate without the other • I had years of not taking care of my body properly ~ as I’ve documented before I drank an unhealthy amount of alcohol, used drugs of any sort, food as a tool to punish myself with + suffered with very low moods, low self esteem, tiredness, sleep issues (reliance on sleep tablets) anger issues, skin problems etc etc and I just kept perpetuating that cycle for a LONG TIME!
I was hurting myself. I didn’t particularly realise at the time that I was hurting others as well nor did I accept that I was hurting myself. I knew deep down I “felt wrong” but I wasn’t quite sure how to break the cycle. Once I started to learn about Nutrition and the effects that has on the mind, body + mental health I began SLOWLY to make some changes. It’s not easy to do this as we are so heavily reliant on our comfort zone, our coping strategies but little by little with a huge amount of determination I kept moving forwards. Sometimes taking a step to the side but more often than not moving onwards.
Slowly but surely 🙌🙌🙌 All experiences good + bad have shaped me to be the person that I am today + the woman I so desperately want to be. We are all so fragile though sometimes ~ a small knock can have the deepest affect ~ but through patience and persistence with oneself we can achieve great things 💟🙌
This woman is stronger than she thinks, as I know many of you are 💪💪 This woman is determined to succeed, as I hope you are. I’ll never forget my past but this woman takes much much better care of herself, as I hope you will. Never give up on you. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you falter ~ we are after all only human.
